Academy Award-winning Brook Aitken is a versatile, creative freelance cinematographer who has shot hundreds of high-end commercials, TV shows, sports, and documentaries all over the world for over 20 years. He owns multiple cameras, including aerial drones, and a full range of lighting/grip equipment to assure he captures the right images and inspirations to exceed his clients’ requirements. Aitken has shot in (and been shot at) in the cocaine fields of Colombia, on the cliffs of Japan, from snowy peaks in Patagonia, and on many large studio sets. His cinematography has had him hanging from helicopters with the military, dangling off 80-foot waterfalls, filming the holy lands of Jerusalem and often filming a simple yet beautifully lit interview.
Clients range from virtually every major national tv network to ad agencies such as Crispin Porter, Satchi & Satchi, Weiden & Kennedy, Cactus Creative, UC Health, Integer Group, Karsh Hagan, Blast Radius, LRXD, Factory Labs, Nike/Jordan Brand, Victor & Spoils, Sterling Rice, Ascent Media, 11 Dollar Bill, Seduced & Exploited, Deloitte Digital, Supply & Demand, Fact & Fiction and the list goes on.
Aitken is a second-generation director of photography, following in the footsteps of his father, Len, who shot multiple documentary films, several winning Emmy Awards. Aitken attended the University of Colorado film school and received a BFA in film production in 1996. His work on “The Cove” documentary garnered an Academy Award; other professional recognition includes a Cinema Eye Award for Best Cinematography, Woods Hole Film Fest Best Cinematography, and three Emmy Awards.
