Academy Award-winning Brook Aitken is a versatile, creative freelance cinematographer who has shot high-end commercials, NetworkTV shows, sports, and documentaries all over the world for over 20 years. He owns multiple cameras, including aerial drones, and a full range of lighting/grip equipment to assure he captures the right images and inspirations to exceed his clients’ requirements. Aitken has shot in the jungles of Colombia, in the killing coves of Japan, the snowy peaks of Patagonia, and on the film studios of Hollywood. . His cinematography has had him hanging from helicopters with the military, dangling off 80-foot waterfalls, and filming on the set with a 60 person crew for Nike/ Jordan.

Past corporate clients range from Nike to Motorola, from National Geographic to NBC, from the NFL to PBR, from Miracle Gro to Vitaminwater, and multiple additional networks and brands. Aitken also has shot commercials for dozens of advertising agencies, such as Crispin Porter, Satchi & Satchi, Weiden & Kennedy, Cactus, Integer Group, LRDX, Factory Labs, Victor & Spoils, Sterling Rice Group and UC Health.

Aitken is a second-generation director of photography, following in the footsteps of his father, Len. Aitken attended the University of Colorado film school and received a BFA in film production in 1996. His work on “The Cove” documentary garnered an Academy Award; other professional recognition includes a Cinema Eye Award for Best Cinematography, Woods Hole Film Fest Best Cinematography, and two Heartland Emmy’s.
Formerly a professional skier and kayaker, Aitken has passion for the outdoors and a healthy understanding of risk taking. He lives in Boulder, Colorado, with his family.
